The Marquis of Lorne History
Bed and Breakfast Accommodation at The Marquis of Lorne Inn.
Originally a farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century, The Marquis
now a Country Inn has a very good reputation for its food and ambience,
a great place to stay for a relaxing short break or a longer holiday.
Our bars are called Eggardon and Pitcher, our non-smoking dining rooms are called Swyre, and Mangerton. All named after local hills. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink by the roaring log fires when cold, or alfresco in the pretty beer gardens, weather permitting.
Eggardon Hill, being the most famous as it is a large unexcavated Roman Hill Fort, it is a great one hour walk from the Inn with views of the nearbby coast and beautifl local areas, you can normally see the white deer up on Eggardon.
Did you know.......? In 1871, Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria, married John, Marquis of Lorne heir to the Duke of Argyll. She was the first Royal Princess to marry a subject. This caused great interest at the time and probably influenced the naming of the pub. more...
